34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
MESSAGE:
To watch and pray in Christendom means that a believer needs to be awake and on guard so that sin will not creep into his or her life. It further implies that a believer must have a constant connection with God. As God’s child, you must be watchful and prayerful because satan roams about as a roaring lion looking for whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8); he is always on the lookout, seeking opportunities to strike God’s children. His whole desire is to turn you away from following and obeying God; therefore, you must not let down your guard.
The devil executes his plans mainly by distracting you. For instance, if you have many friends who do not understand spiritual matters, they will question your reasons for fasting, praying, paying your tithe, et cetera. Gradually, their influence might become a stronghold in your heart, and you might start questioning biblical doctrines also. Eventually, you might let your guard down and join them.
My dear child, I encourage you to check if God’s word backs everything you do and the doctrines you follow. You must also flee all appearances of evil, and be sensitive in the spirit. Fix your gaze on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), and I am certain that you will overcome in the end.
