DON’T DISHONOUR GOD

MEMORISE: Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19

BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 2:30

30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

MESSAGE:

Eli was a highly revered priest in Israel who served God wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, his children, Hophni and Phinehas, didn’t follow in his footsteps. They failed to honour God, and their actions led to disgraceful deaths for themselves and their father. God’s wrath fell on the entire family.

The Bible tells us that Eli’s children Used the offerings that people brought to God for themselves (1 Samuel 2:29) and molested the women who came to worship God (1 Samuel 2:22). When God pronounced His judgment on them, their father said, “He is God; let Him do as He wishes” (1 Samuel 3:18). This shows that their father was fed up with the complaints about his children and had resigned to fate concerning their judgment.

Naturally, one would have expected him to intercede on their behalf, but it appeared that the old man was tired of the situation.

Are you exhibiting traits or attitudes that are making your parents subconsciously hand you over to God? It is time to turn a new leaf so that God’s judgment will not come on you suddenly. Ask Jesus to come into your life right now, promise to honour Him with your life henceforth, and be intentional about fulfilling your promise.

KEY POINT:
Honour God and your parents so that you will not suffer God’s judgment.
