VISION FOR CHOICES

MEMORISE: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20

BIBLE READING: Habakkuk 2:1-2

1I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

MESSAGE:

I learnt early in life that people are attracted to and spend time with people who have vision and are disciplined. If you find an unserious fellow with many friends, it is usually because they all have similar characteristics and are heading nowhere in life.

Having a vision determines our direction in life and also chooses our friends and the company we keep. Many years ago, when I had the vision of becoming the youngest Vice-chancellor in Africa, I carefully chose friends who were focused and disciplined. I also hung out with some colleagues who were running their MSc. and Ph.D. programmes at the time. I attended seminars and academic conferences, and I networked with people who were heading where I was headed.

My dear child, don’t associate yourself with peers who do not know where they are headed in life or whose activities tend towards destruction. You must develop a vision for your life and choose friends who will propel you in the right direction.

REFLECTION:
Do your friends align with your vision?
