A JOINT HEIR

MEMORISE: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Romans 8:16

BIBLE READING: Romans 8:14-17

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

MESSAGE:

An heir is a person who succeeds another person and is entitled to all the rights, privileges, and possessions of whom he or she is succeeding. For example, a prince or princess might have the same access to some things in a kingdom as a king, but a slave or commoner may not have the same access. An heir enjoys many privileges, unlike a slave or commoner.

Likewise, being a son or daughter of God makes you a joint heir with Christ, giving you the privilege of sonship. God sees you as He sees His son, Jesus; therefore, you also have all the power, rights, and privileges that Jesus has.

My dear child, being a joint heir with Christ implies that you can do all that Jesus did while on earth and even more. You have direct access to God the Father; you can call on Him anytime, and He will answer. You can also perform miracles and cast out demons. However, to maintain this privilege, I implore you to stay holy so that sin will not rob you of your authority in Christ.

KEY POINT:
Are you exercising your authority like Jesus, or are you behaving like a servant?
